Items that are too large, heavy or delicate to ship via traditional methods such as UPS Ground, FedEx or USPS must ship via common carrier, crated and palletized on a large freight truck. Freight truck shipping REQUIRES items to be specially packaged AND on a pallet or the carrier will not accept them due to the likelihood of damage and inability to load them properly. Freight trucks are typically 18-wheelers with smaller trucks used to make certain deliveries. These items are moved by forklift inside freight shipping terminals and eventually loaded onto a delivery truck that brings the item to your business.
There is a section of each product description entitled ‘SHIP DETAILS’ with a line that reads ‘Ships by’ and if the word FREIGHT is entered in that line, then it ships by Freight Truck. This is also always noted in the ReliaBuy View section of the product description itself.
While many of our listings include FREE liftgate service, some of the lighter items under 100 lbs do not. Liftgate trucks are smaller trucks that have a motorized attachment on the back of the truck to lower your item to the ground. IF your listing does NOT include the Liftgate option for free and you do not desire to pay extra for this option, it will be your responsibility to remove the item from the back of the freight truck. The driver will push it to the edge and you will need a forklift, loading bay or 2-3 strong men to lift it off the back of the truck yourself. This of course is made much easier for items that have Caster Wheels as then you can simply uncrate the unit outside, then roll it inside with ease.
Items are delivered CURBSIDE as INSIDE Delivery is NOT included. As such, you are responsible for bringing it from the drop-off spot outside your home/business. Inside delivery options are often available for an added fee but restrictions apply – see below for more info:
a. BASIC Inside Delivery – this added option is the least expensive (usually $75-100) and involves the freight truck driver bringing the item on its shipping pallet through 1 major threshold (set of doors) using his basic pallet jack device. This requires your doors to be wide enough to accommodate a standard 44” pallet and also high enough to accommodate the item height plus add 6 inches for the pallet/jack. This also requires NO steps leading into your home/business as the pallet jack has small wheels and cannot go up or down stairs or steps.
b. WHITE GLOVE Inside Delivery – this added option is very expensive (usually $300-600) and involves the freight carrier bringing out a crew of men with special equipment. They will bring the item not only through 1 threshold but anywhere in your house/business (price is extra for more than 3 steps/stairs). They will also place it in the desired spot, remove all packaging and haul away any trash etc.
Your least expensive option is to simply request tracking info from us so you know when the item is coming and arrange with some employees or laborers to meet you at time of delivery to help bring it in from the curb to inside your business. As many businesses do not have wide enough doors to accommodate the item on its pallet, you often must uncrate the item outside and carry the item through your doors.
Standard deliveries = MONDAY-FRIDAY 9am-5pm without an appointment. If need be, you can request a Call Before Delivery option at no extra charge but please let us know this information in advance! Also please be sure to tell us if your business is new and not yet open or your business does not have people to accept deliveries there during these hours. If a driver attempts to make a delivery and you or someone you authorize is NOT there to take delivery, the freight carrier will return the item back to the local freight terminal and they charge $100 to re-deliver the item! As such, it’s crucial you have the manpower and someone on site at time of delivery to accept the shipment.
REFUSE IT AT TIME OF DELIVERY! The single most important thing with every freight delivery is to uncrate and inspect the item PRIOR TO SIGNING OFF ON IT! Drivers will often pressure you to sign for the item immediately upon delivery however they cannot leave until you SIGN for the item. You have the right to inspect the item before signing off on it even if the driver tells you otherwise! You need to inspect the item for physical damage and REFUSE it if damage is observed. Take pictures of the damage, close the crate back up and the driver will take it back.
If you sign for the unit without notating damage or refusing the delivery, then YOU become responsible for any damage noticed thereafter. If you refuse the delivery, then ReliaBuy will take care of the issue for you by repairing or replacing the unit at no charge to you. Again please do not be pressured by drivers who are in a hurry and want you to sign off immediately – do not let their rush cost you! Also be careful when you uncrate the item to not destroy the crate/packaging as you may need to seal it back up for the return of the item in case it is indeed damaged.
Keep them! In case the unit is defective or needs to be returned for any reason in the future, YOU are responsible for re-packaging the item and as such, having the proper packing materials is a necessary step that can potentially save you hundreds. Freight carriers simply will NOT pick your item up for return unless it is both PROPERLY PACKAGED and also on a WOOD PALLET. If you do not keep the original packaging materials, you may have to hire an onsite crating company to re-package the unit for return, which can cost several hundred dollars.
Standard freight deliveries are made to COMMERCIAL business addresses only. This does NOT include residences, businesses run from homes, farms, churches, schools, trade shows or other non-commercial addresses! As such, it costs $50 extra for deliveries to be made to these types of properties. While typical Commercial Business deliveries are dropped off randomly between 9am-5pm M-F, as part of the extra $50 Residential delivery charge, an Appointment for Delivery IS included so in these cases, you will be able to control when your item is delivered to your home (normal M-F 9am-5pm delivery days/times apply) and ensure you have any needed manpower there to help assist you at that time.
