Freight Shipping FAQ

FREIGHT SHIPPING FAQ

WHAT IS FREIGHT SHIPPING?
Items that are too large, heavy or delicate to ship via traditional methods such as UPS Ground, FedEx or USPS must ship crated and palletized on a large freight truck. Freight truck shipping REQUIRES items to be specially packaged AND on a pallet or the carrier will not accept them. Freight trucks are typically 18-wheelers that measure 53 feet in length.

HOW DO I KNOW IF MY ITEM SHIPS BY FREIGHT TRUCK?
Every product page has a Ship Details box with a line inside that reads “SHIP METHOD” - if the word FREIGHT is entered in that line, then it ships by Freight Truck.

WHAT IS THE LIFTGATE OPTION AND DO I NEED IT?
Liftgate delivery trucks have a motorized attachment on the back of the truck to lower your pallet to the ground. If you do not choose this option, it is your responsibility to remove the item from the back of the freight truck. The driver will push it to the edge and you will need a forklift, loading dock or 2-3 strong men to lift it off the back of the truck yourself.

WHAT IS THE LIMITED ACCESS OPTION AND DO I NEED IT?
Freight carriers charge extra to deliver to any property types they consider "non-standard" - this includes everything from churches, schools, hotels, strip malls and any other business type that either does not have a loading dock or is dfficult to park a 53-foot truck nearby.

HOW ARE FREIGHT ITEMS DELIVERED?
Freight Items are delivered CURBSIDE as INSIDE Delivery is NOT included. As such, you are responsible for moving it inside your business and therefore will need to arrange with some employees or laborers to meet you at the time of delivery to help bring it in from the curbside.

WHEN ARE FREIGHT DELIVERIES MADE?
Standard deliveries = MONDAY-FRIDAY 9am-5pm without an appointment. If need be, you can request a Call Before Delivery option at no extra charge but please let us know this information in advance! Also please be sure to tell us if your business is new and not yet open or if your business does not have people to accept deliveries there during these hours.

If a driver attempts to make a delivery and you or someone you authorize is NOT there to accept and sign for the delivery, the freight carrier will return the item back to the local freight terminal and will charge $100 to re-deliver the item! As such, it’s crucial you have the manpower and someone on site at time of delivery to accept the shipment.

WHAT SHOULD I DO WITH THE CRATE/PACKAGING MATERIALS?
Keep them! In case the unit is defective or needs to be returned for any reason in the future, YOU are responsible for repackaging the item and as such, having the proper packing materials is a necessary step that can potentially save you hundreds. Freight carriers simply will not pick your item up for return unless it is both PROPERLY PACKAGED and also on a WOOD PALLET. If you do not keep the original packaging materials, you may have to hire an onsite crating company to repackage the unit for return, which can cost several hundred dollars.

WHAT IF I WANT THE ITEM DELIVERED TO A RESIDENCE?
Standard freight deliveries are made to COMMERCIAL business addresses only. This does NOT include residences or businesses run from homes. As such, it costs $50.00 extra for deliveries to be made to these types of properties. As part of the extra $50 Residential delivery charge, an Appointment for Delivery IS included so in these cases, you will be able to control when your item is delivered to your home (normal M-F 9am-5pm delivery days/times apply) and to help ensure you have any needed manpower there to help assist you at that time.

WHAT DO I DO IF THE ITEM ARRIVES DAMAGED?
ALWAYS INSPECT AND NOTATE ANY DAMAGE AT THE TIME OF DELIVERY! You have the right to inspect the item before signing off on it even if the driver tells you otherwise! You must inspect the item for physical damage and:

1. If MAJOR damage is observed, REFUSE the delivery
2. If MINOR damage is observed, NOTATE the damage on the shipper’s paperwork
3. If NO damage is observed, sign for the delivery as ‘free and clear’

If you sign for the unit without notating the damage on the shipper’s paperwork (known as the B.O.L.) or refusing the delivery, then YOU become responsible for any damage noticed thereafter. However, if you notate the damage and/or refuse the delivery per the instructions above, then ReliaBuy will take care of the issue for you by repairing or replacing the unit at our discretion, all at no charge to you.

Please do not be pressured by drivers who are in a hurry and want you to sign their paperwork without properly inspecting the item first – do not let their rush cost you!
